Bainbridge Arts & Craft - September 2 - October 2
Artists’ Reception 6-8 pm Friday, September 2
Birgit Josenhans’ benches will be in a show at Bainbridge Arts & Craft along with paintings by Amy D’Apice.
Birgit creates her own sense of place with benches ingeniously crafted in wood, river rock, and resin. Many bear the names of our region’s great bodies of water. Sit, rest and enjoy the view.
Be sure to check out the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. The current shows will run from June 25-October 2.
On the second floor is a wonderful show of Barbara Earl Thomas called “Heaven on Fire”.
On the first floor are pieces from the museum permanent collection and included is a chair by Robert Spangler and a bench by Birgit Josenhans.
Before we begin a project we usually do a 3D drawing of the piece. This way we can rotate and view it from all angles and work out details before any building begins. It also allows our clients to see the actual piece and make any modifications before construction.
This is a photo of spalted maple (before finish) that we are using on a drawer front of the side tables of our Zen Bed.
Two things that are particularly interesting this month is a Madrone/Walnut coffee table we just delivered that Birgit Josenhans made in our shop. She has been embedding rocks into the tops for several years now but this slab of Madrone with the rocks and the new base were a hit with the clients as well as visitors to the shop while it was in progress. The slab of Madrone has been sitting around in the shop for two or three years and never found its place until now. The one piece top measures about 42”w x 48” l.
The other thing that caught my eye was the sunlight on a shell carving that I had done in 1982. Over 34 years ago and still looking great.
